Travel
Following Brexit, the rules for taking your pet dog, cat, or ferret abroad have changed.
You can no longer use a Pet Passport issued in Great Britain to enter the EU and may need an Animal Health Certificate instead.
Passports issued in other countries may still be valid for travel within the EU, but you should check this, along with any other additional requirements, before you intend to travel. Further information can be found on here on the UK Government website.
In our practice, we have an 'official veterinarian' who can prepare and sign Animal Health Certificates.
Depending on your travel destination, there may be additional requirements in order for an Animal Health Certificate to be issued. These may include additional vaccinations, for example the rabies vaccination, and certain parasite treatments. These may have specific time requirements in relation to your date of travel. Our official veterinarian will be able to advise you on these requirements and their timings, to ensure that your pet is able to travel.
If you are planning to travel abroad and wish to take your dog, cat, or ferret with you, please contact the practice by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and include:
- Your name
- The name of any pets you wish to travel with

- Your destination (if you are travelling through multiple countries, please include all of these, and any dates of onwards travel)
- Your method of transportation

Following this, our vet will be able to contact you and put in place any necessary arrangements for your Animal Health Certificate. We kindly ask that you give us as much notice as possible before you wish to travel, so that our official veterinarian can ensure they are able to accommodate and organise your request.
Please note that a new Animal Health Certificate is required for each trip.
If you plan to travel outside of the EU, or you wish to move abroad with your pet permanently, please contact the practice via email, as we may be able to assist with travel or export requirements.
Please note that there is a charge for these services.
